Suicide bombing rocks wedding celebrations in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seven killed
PTC News Desk: At least seven people lost their lives and 25 others were injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest during a wedding ceremony in Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday.
The attack took place at the home of Noor Alam Mehsud, a pro-government community figure in Dera Ismail Khan district, according to local police. The explosion triggered chaos at the crowded event, leaving debris and blood scattered across the scene.
Guests were reportedly dancing when the blast occurred, and the impact caused the roof to collapse, complicating rescue operations and trapping several people under the rubble. Officials said one of the victims was a so-called “good Talib” — a former militant who had surrendered to the authorities — while the remaining casualties were his family members.
The injured and deceased were rushed to a nearby hospital, where several victims were said to be in critical condition. Security forces sealed off the area and began a search operation to track down possible accomplices. Initial reports identified peace committee leader Waheedullah Mehsud, also known as Jigri Mehsud, among those killed.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far, but suspicion has fallen on the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has been linked to multiple violent attacks in recent years.
Earlier this month, four peace committee members were shot dead in Bannu district, also in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In November 2025, another attack on a peace committee office in the province left seven people dead.
