Taking to X, Rubio said he thanked Dar for “Pakistan’s partnership in countering terrorism and preserving regional stability.” The leaders also discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and deepen collaboration in the critical minerals and mining sectors.
The two leaders explored ways to boost bilateral trade and intensify collaboration in the critical minerals and mining sectors. They also reviewed preparations for the upcoming U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Islamabad this August. The discussions placed special emphasis on improving joint efforts against terror organizations such as ISIS-K.
Rubio highlighted the importance of expanding trade that benefits both nations and emphasized the strategic value of cooperation in the minerals sector, especially given the rising global demand for critical resources. The meeting occurred shortly after Rubio announced plans to designate The Resistance Front (TRF)—an affiliate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
TRF had claimed responsibility for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead.
