Vancouver festival tragedy: Suspect charged with murder as death toll mounts to 11
PTC News Desk: The death toll in the fatal Vancouver festival tragedy has risen to 11 as the suspect has beenc charged with murder, according to a report.
Festival attendees assisted in pursuing and restraining the suspect, who has been identified by police as a 30-year-old man with a documented history of mental health-related encounters with authorities.
Vancouver police stated that the victims ranged in age from five to 65. Vancouver Police interim chief Steve Rai said in a Sunday press conference had said, "Dozens more are injured, some critically, and some have not yet been identified."
In the aftermath of the deadly incident at Vancouver's Lapu Lapu festival, Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his condolences and said he spoke with Mayor of Vancouver Ken Sim following the attack and assured the city and the Filipino-Canadian community that the federal government stands ready to assist.
