42 children died in 48 hours at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur after 70 died early this month

In a shocking incident, 42 children died in 48 hours at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur majorly due to pediatric diseases. Seven deaths were due to Encephalitis, P.K. Singh, the principal of Baba Raghav Das (B.R.D.) Medical College, Gorakhpur, said on Wednesday. [caption id="attachment_54121" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Family members and relatives mourn outside the BRD Hospital in Gorakhpur[/caption] “16 deaths have occurred in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and 26 in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU),” he added. Singh also reasoned, “There are many children who are coming to us in an extremely critical condition, and are barely surviving for half to one hour.” The same hospital had witnessed deaths of 70 children due to lack of oxygen early this month. An FIR was also registered on Aug 23 against 9 persons, including the principal and two officials from the oxygen supplying agency the Pushpa Sales Private Limited. There are about 342 to 350 in ward patients at the hospital each day, with 344 on Wednesday. The hospital is religiously doing their duty, adding that he is hopeful that the numbers will go down, he said. -PTC News
