Microsoft, Uber, Apple stand in support of employees: DACA programme

US tech giants, including Apple, Google and Microsoft stand in support of their employees after Trump scraps dreams by repealing DACA. Thousands of people who arrived in the US illegally years ago are now facing chances of deportation, as US President Donald Trump decided to repeal DACA programme, a South Asian Advocacy group said. Microsoft and Apple are offering defence of “Dreamers” — undocumented individuals who have been in the US since they were young and registered with the federal government to get work permits. “#Dreamers contribute to our companies and our communities just as much as you and I. Apple will fight for them to be treated as equals,” Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted. https://twitter.com/tim_cook/status/905136795645501440 “You’re going to have to go through us to deport Dreamers who work here,” Microsoft said, adding it will stick by its employees affected by any change to DACA, even in court. “If Congress fails to act, our company will exercise its legal rights properly to help protect our employees,” Microsoft president and chief legal officer Brad Smith posted through a blog. “If the government seeks to deport any one of them, we will provide and pay for their legal counsel,” Smith wrote, of the 39 Dreamers who work at Microsoft. “Dreamers make our country & communities stronger. We stand for diversity and economic opportunity for everyone. Legislation to protect 800,000 #Dreamers is an economic & humanitarian imperative. Congress needs to act quickly,” Nadella tweeted. https://twitter.com/satyanadella/status/905104428633538560 “Dreamers are our neighbors, our friends and our co- workers. This is their home. Congress needs to act now to #DefendDACA. #WithDreamers,” CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted. https://twitter.com/sundarpichai/status/905090271494365186 Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in a tweet wrote, “It’s against our values to turn our backs on #DREAMers. Everyone deserves a chance to work, study and contribute - the #AmericanDream!” -PTC News
