16-year-old rape victim commits suicide in Uttar Pradesh
A 16-year-old rape victim committed suicide on Thursday night in Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh. She committed suicide almost one month after she was raped by a man from her village. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room.

The victim was raped by a man from her village on December 15, 2018. Following which, her family lodged a complaint. An FIR was filed and police arrested the accused.

The accused then started threatening the victim’s family. The accused threatened the girl to withdraw her complaint or else, she would be set ablaze. Police has registered an FIR under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
