PTC News Desk: Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, best remembered for playing a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, has passed away at the age of 91. He died on Monday in Thane, though the exact cause has not been disclosed.
Reports suggest he had recently been hospitalised due to age-related ailments. His funeral is scheduled to be held in Thane on August 19.
Potdar, who appeared in over 125 Hindi and Marathi films along with more than 100 television serials, was widely admired for his natural screen presence.
Star Pravah confirmed the news of his death on Instagram, paying tribute to him with the words: “A heartfelt tribute to senior actor Achyut Potdar… His smile, simplicity and honesty in every role will always be remembered.” His role in 3 Idiots became iconic, with his dialogue “Kehna Kya Chahte Ho” going viral and inspiring countless memes online.
Interestingly, Potdar entered the film industry relatively late, at the age of 44, after serving in the Indian Army and working with the Indian Oil Corporation. He had also briefly worked as a college professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. On television, he featured in popular shows like Wagle Ki Duniya, Majha Hoshil Na, Mrs Tendulkar, and Bharat Ki Khoj. Alongside Hindi cinema, he made significant contributions to Marathi films as well.
