'Paid for Business Class': Gippy Grewal slams Air Canada for downgrading to Economy, calls out airline for threatening to deboard
PTC News Desk: Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal has slammed Air Canada on social media for downgrading him from Business Class to Economy Class on his flight from Toronto to New Jersey. The actor said he had paid for a Business Class ticket but was moved to Economy shortly before boarding, and claimed that the airline staff threatened to take him off the flight.
Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), Gippy said he was only asking for the seat he had paid for and an explanation for the sudden change. The actor-singer wrote, “Really bad experience with @AirCanada on AC1504. I paid for business class and they put me in economy. When I asked what happened, the answer was basically ‘it happened, we can’t do anything. You can take the flight or leave it’. Not even a simple apology. When I kept asking why, instead of trying to help, I was told I could be taken off the plane. I wasn’t asking for anything extra. I was only asking for the business class seat I paid for and an explanation."

In his post, Gippy Grewal said he was not asking the airline for any extra facilities. He said his only request was to be given the business class seat he had paid for and to be told why he had been assigned an economy class seat instead.
He also said that the airline did not even offer him a simple apology during the incident. Expressing disappointment over the airline’s handling of the matter, Gippy described it as a very bad experience.
Air Canada issues apology
After Gippy’s post, Air Canada responded on X. The airline expressed regret over the incident and apologised to him. It asked Gippy to share his booking reference and the full name or names listed on the ticket via direct message so that it could investigate the matter.
The airline again requested the booking reference and passenger name to look into the issue. However, its response did not explain why Gippy was moved from business class to economy or what led to the change in seating.
The flight mentioned in Gippy’s complaint is Air Canada flight AC1504. According to flight records, the flight operates between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New York.
For September 16, 2026, the scheduled departure time of AC1504 from Toronto was 12 pm, with arrival in Newark at 1:35 pm. The flight was listed as being operated by an Airbus A320, with a scheduled duration of around 1 hour and 35 minutes.
