Farmer unions to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on May 5 to seek justice

Ludhiana, May 1: Farmer unions under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will visit Lakhimpur Kheri on May 5 to seek justice for the families of farmers who were killed there last year.

The farm leaders from Punjab will leave for Lakhimpur Kheri on May 4 and will join other farmers from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on the way.

The decision was taken on Saturday in a meeting of the morcha. The meeting was chaired by the general secretary of BKU (Lakhowal) Harinder Singh Lakhowal, state president of the BKU Behramke Balwant Singh Behramke and state president of the Jai Kisan Andolan Gurbaksh Singh.

According to the reports, the farm leaders will meet the families of the farmers who were killed. Harinder informed that they would meet with the Lakhimpur Kheri administration on May 5 to seek justice for the families of the 'martyred' farmers.

The farmer leaders also informed that the SKM delegation had met with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on April 17. The Punjab CM had assured the union leaders that a bonus would be given on low yield of wheat and power supply would be ensured. They added that the CM had assured MSP on moongi, maize, and basmati rice.
