Karnataka: In unfortunate, tragic and dreadful incident, a 26-year-old woman allegedly threw her six-year-old disabled son into a crocodile infested river at Dandeli taluk after a quarrel with her husband.

The couple often engaged in arguments concerning the condition of their elder son, who has been mute since birth. They have a younger son, aged two.

Savitri's husband, Ravi Kumar (27), frequently clashed with her over their elder son's disability, questioning her about why she gave birth to a mute child. Allegedly, at times, he even suggested discarding the child, according to police sources.

As per police reports, after a heated argument over the same issue on Saturday evening, a distraught Savitri purportedly tossed her elder son into a waste canal that directly connects to the Kali river, known to be inhabited by crocodiles.

Neighbors raised the alarm, prompting police intervention. Authorities, along with local residents and divers, launched a search mission to locate the child. However, due to darkness, the police were unable to locate the child at the time.

On Sunday morning, authorities successfully recovered the child's body, which exhibited severe injuries, including bite marks across the body and a missing hand, suggesting a crocodile attack.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Police confirmed that an ongoing investigation is in progress to delve deeper into the incident.

"We have registered a case at Dandeli Rural Police station under section 109 (Abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested both husband and wife in connection with the incident," the police authorities said.
