Illegal structures in Chandigarh’s Janta Colony to be demolished

Chandigarh, May 11: A meeting held on May 11, under the chairmanship of Sh. Vinay Partap Singh, Deputy Commissioner planed the demolition of illegal structures/ jhuggies at Janta Colony, Sector 25 on May 15, 2022 for which the approval was already given by Sh. Dharam Pal Adviser to the Administrator.

The jhuggies/structures in the Janta Colony are illegal encroachments constructed on Government land. About 10 acres of Government land has been encroached upon by the illegal construction in this area. This land has already been earmarked for Dispensary, Primary School, Community Center and the Shopping area.

To carry out the smooth drive, the Chandigarh Administration installed a notice board of 15 days ago for the eviction and demolition at Janta colony. Public announcements (Munadi) for eviction/demolition have been run continuously at the site.

The whole area of about 10 acres has been divided into four sectors. Four duty Magistrates and adequate police have been deployed for the demolition operation.

Moreover, the Deputy Commissioner has directed The Engineering Department to make arrangements for the smooth conduct of possession of the land on the day of demolition.

The meeting was attended by all SDMs, Assistant Estate Officer, Secretary Chandigarh Housing Board, DSP (Central), officers of Engineering wing of Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation, Fire Officer, Tehsildar (Colonies) and other officers.
