Joe Biden names Eric Garcetti as new US envoy to India

Eight days after a new US Chargé d’Affaires Atul Keshap took charge at the US embassy, the United States President Joe Biden announced the nomination of Eric Garcetti as the US envoy to India.

Eric Garcetti was nominated to be the US envoy to India on May 26. It comes after Joe Biden sent a clutch of ambassadorships to the Senate for confirmation.

Garcetti has been a Mayor of Los Angeles since 2013. He served for 12 years as an Intelligence Officer in the US Navy Reserve Component. His term as the Mayor runs out in 2022.

Currently, he chairs LA Metro, the country’s second-busiest transit agency.

He even taught at Occidental College’s Department of Diplomacy and World Affairs and also the University of Southern California’s School of International Relations.

He has also conducted fieldwork on nationalism, ethnicity, and human rights in Southeast Asia and Northeast Africa.

Eric’s nomination was announced with that of Denise Campbell Bauer (France), Peter D Haas (Bangladesh), and Bernadette Meehan (Chile).
