PTC Web Desk: In a significant step, the US Commerce Department on Friday included 42 Chinese firms on its government export control list, citing their support for Russia's military and defense sectors. This support includes the provision of US-made integrated circuits. Additionally, seven entities from various countries, including Finland, Germany, India, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, were added to the trade export control list.

The integrated circuits in question consist of microelectronics used by Russia in precision guidance systems for missiles and drones, particularly in attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, as highlighted in a statement by the Commerce Department.

Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Matthew Axelrod said, "Today’s additions to the Entity List provide a clear message: if you supply the Russian defense sector with US-origin technology, we will find out, and we will take action."

China responded to the US move, characterising it as "economic coercion and unilateral bullying" in a statement from the Ministry of Commerce. China called for the US to rectify its actions and cease its unjustifiable suppression of Chinese companies.

It has been 20 months since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with the conflict ongoing. Tragically, a recent Russian missile strike in northeastern Ukraine resulted in the loss of at least 52 lives, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the conflict.

Entities are placed on the US Entity List when they are deemed a threat to US national security or foreign policy. Suppliers seeking to export goods to entities on this list typically face significant challenges in obtaining the necessary licenses to do so.
