Lata Mangeshkar's nephew collects her ashes from Shivaji Park

Mumbai, February 7: A day after the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, her ashes were collected by her nephew Adinath Mangeshkar on Monday from Mumbai's Shivaji Park.

Notably, the elderly singer was cremated at the Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday with full state honours.

Aditnath was spotted carrying a red cloth that contained her ashes.

The ashes of the deceased are collected in an earthen pot and poured into the sacred river in Hindu tradition.

Several celebrities and politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attended the cremation of the legendary singer.

Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last on Sunday, at the age of 92, after suffering multiple organ failure. On January 8, the singer was hospitalised at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after being diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Born in 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest of five siblings - Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar.

She had recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and sung in over 36 foreign and regional Indian languages.

The singer also received the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards during her musical career spanning over seventy years. In 1974, the Queen of Melody made history by being the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall.
