Two minor sisters died after allegedly getting trapped inside a parked car while playing in Rajasthan’s Alwar amid severe heatwave conditions
Alwar heatwave tragedy: Two young sisters died after allegedly getting trapped inside a parked car while playing in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, the police said on Thursday. The heartbreaking incident occurred amid severe heatwave conditions gripping several parts of North India, where temperatures continue to remain dangerously high.
According to police officials, the incident took place in the Khudanpuri locality falling under the Vaishali Nagar police station area. The girls, identified as eight-year-old Tina and five-year-old Lakshmi, had stepped out of their home on Wednesday afternoon to play near the locality. During this time, they reportedly wandered into a nearby car service centre where a vehicle had been parked.
The police said the sisters entered the parked car while playing. However, the vehicle allegedly got locked from inside, leaving the children trapped as temperatures outside hovered around 43 degrees Celsius.
As the children did not return home for a long time, family members and local residents launched a search operation in the area.
As per the police, the girls were later found unconscious inside the parked vehicle. They were immediately taken out and rushed for medical help, but both had already lost their lives due to suffocation.
Doctors at the hospital declared the children dead on arrival. Their bodies were later shifted to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The police have started an investigation into the matter and are also examining CCTV footage that reportedly captured the two sisters entering the vehicle during playtime.
Reports claimed the children remained trapped inside for nearly half an hour before they were discovered.
The tragedy has become even more painful for the family as the girls had already lost their mother four years ago. Their father, Ramesh, who has been raising both daughters alone, was said to be devastated by the incident.
