PTC Web Desk: A day after violence broke out during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' march in Delhi, Congress leaders staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday. The party accused the Centre of using excessive force against students and protesters and demanded accountability for the clashes.

Several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera, participated in the protest.

Congress leaders detained during protest

As Congress workers gathered near the Prime Minister's residence, the Delhi Police detained several leaders and supporters to prevent them from moving towards the high-security area. Heavy security arrangements were put in place, with a large deployment of Delhi Police personnel stationed around the Prime Minister's residence to maintain law and order.

Rahul Gandhi seeks resignation of PM and Home Minister

Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the government over the police action taken during Monday's protest. In a post on X, he said the Congress marched to the Prime Minister's residence to seek answers over the alleged use of force against students. He accused the government of avoiding accountability and refusing to discuss the matter in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi also demanded the resignation of both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, alleging that the government's actions had harmed the future of the country's youth.

Channi terms police action 'BJP's terrorism'

Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who also joined the protest, criticised the police crackdown after being detained. Speaking to reporters, Channi described the action against students as "BJP's terrorism" and accused the ruling party of suppressing democratic protests.

Earlier in the day, political leaders visited those injured during Monday's clashes. Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital to meet injured police personnel and others receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited RML Hospital to meet students who were injured during the protest.

Security continues to remain on high alert across the national capital following the violence during the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' march. Several protesters and police personnel were injured in the clashes that took place between demonstrators and security forces on Monday.
