PTC Web Desk:  Five senior students of Dagshai Public School in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district have been suspended following an alleged ragging incident involving a Class IX student at the school hostel.

The action comes after a video of the alleged assault surfaced on social media and triggered concern among students and parents.

The five students, who are from Punjab, are studying in Classes XI and XII. The student who was allegedly assaulted is also reported to be from Punjab.

What happened on September 5?

According to the complaint filed with the police, the incident took place on September 5. Five senior students allegedly went to the hostel room of a Class IX student, forcibly took him out and assaulted him.

A video of the incident later circulated widely on social media. The footage reportedly shows a student being slapped and subjected to abusive language.

Following the complaint, the Dagshai Police registered an FIR against the five students and began an investigation.

Police probe into ragging allegations

Solan SP Sai Dattatreya Varma said the FIR was registered on a joint complaint filed by Talwinder Manes and other parents.

The complaint also contains allegations that junior students had allegedly been facing ragging, intimidation, physical assault and verbal abuse by senior students for around four months. There are also allegations that the accused students were carrying weapons.

The police are recording statements of the affected students and investigating other aspects of the case.

Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar, who is in charge of the Dagshai Police Post, is handling the investigation. The police are also expected to question the accused students, hostel wardens and other people connected with the matter.

The statement of school principal Ravinder Vohra has already been recorded, according to the information available.

As the latest development, the school has suspended all five students accused in the case. The suspension follows the registration of the FIR and the growing concern over the alleged incident.

The police said the case is being investigated under the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009, along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The SP said there are strict legal provisions against ragging and that such incidents would not be tolerated.

The incident has also worried several parents, who have approached the police seeking help regarding the safety of their children.
