Critical situation: Delhi traders body directs closure of shops, restaurants in Connaught Place by 6:30 pm as CJP protests swell

PTC News Desk: The New Delhi Traders' Association has issued an advisory directing all shops, offices, restaurants, and commercial establishments in Connaught Place to shut down by 6:30 pm today citing the prevailing situation around the commercial hub amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest.
“All shops and establishments, including offices and restaurants, in Connaught Place, New Delhi, shall close for the day by 6:30 pm, today that is 23.07.2026,” the circular reads.
The traders' body has appealed to all the establishments owners and occupiers to strictly comply with the instructions to 'avoid any unpleasant situation and save yourself from any loss of property and injury.”
While describing the closure as precautionary measure, they said that it was intended to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incident.
“There was a huge gathering in Connaught Place, with thousands of people coming to the area. As a precautionary measure, it was advised to close our shop if possible. Considering situation and for the safety of our staff and customers,” Atul Bhargava, New Delhi Traders Association president.
The advisory further said that the measure was being taken in view of the 'critical situationaround the Connaught Place due to the CJP protest, which intensified after four days of escalating tensions in the national capital.
The unrest began on July 20 with the party's 'Sansad Chalo' march, which ended in clashes between protesters and Delhi Police near Parliament after demonstrators attempted to breach barricades.
