PTC News Desk: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined Air India Rs 10 lakh on Tuesday for violating Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

In a statement, the aviation regulator stated that it issued CAR Section 3, Series M Part IV titled "Facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights, and delays in flights" in 2010 and that it was revised on a regular basis to ensure appropriate protection for air travellers in the event of flight disruptions, particularly denied boardings, cancellations, and delays.

Since May 2023, the DGCA has conducted ongoing inspections of scheduled domestic airlines at various major airports. "During the airline inspections, it was discovered that Air India was not complying with the provisions of the relevant CAR. As a result, a show cause notice has been issued to Air India, requesting a response for non-compliance with the provisions of the CAR," according to a DGCA statement.

“It may be recalled that similar inspections had earlier been carried out at major airports last year also and on grounds of similar non-compliance by Air India with the provisions of CAR on Denied Boarding of passengers, a penalty of ₹10,00,000/- was imposed on Air India for the violations”, the DGCA said in a statement.
