DMRC shuts 16 metro stations as CJP protest intensifies; check complete list

PTC News Desk: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has shut sixteen metro stations in central Delhi, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO and Khan Market, were closed on Thursday morning until further instructions for security reasons.
The protest which seeks Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation and action over examination leaks, showed no signs of backing down wit demonstrators continued their sit-in at Jantar Mantar for the third consecutive day after the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' march.
In a post on X, the DMRC said, "Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium metro stations have been closed till further instructions." It added that interchange facilities would remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.
During the July 20 march, Delhi Police used batons and fired tear gas shells to stop protesters from marching towards Parliament. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) alleged that the police used excessive force, while Delhi Police said it acted only after protesters tried to break through security barricades.
The protest, which began on June 20, is demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive exams, reforms in the education system, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the alleged paper leak.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined the protest on June 28 and has been on an indefinite hunger strike since then, said on Wednesday that he would end his fast if the Centre assured that no FIRs or punitive action would be taken against students and young people who participated in the agitation. Wangchuk is currently admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after being shifted from Safdarjung Hospital following a Delhi High Court order.
As the protest continued at Jantar Mantar and the number of demonstrators increased, metro services in parts of central Delhi remained affected on Thursday. Protesters continued to press for action over the alleged NEET paper leak and objected to the police action during the march towards Parliament.
