J&K terror attack: 35-year-old cop shot dead by terrorist in Anantnag, Lashkar proxy claims responsibility
PTC News Desk: A 35-year-old police personnel was shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag on Wednesday. The firing took place around 12.30 pm at Lal Chowk in Anantnag, the officials said.
Soon after the firing, security forces cordoned off the area and launched investigation to track down the terrorist. Several checkpoints were setup across key routes
Aashiq Hussain Qureshi, a head constable was posted on duty when he was shot after which he was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
A bike-borne terrorist opened fire and later fled the spot. Gunshots were heard in the area, triggering panic among locals.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Toiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post.
The latest attack comes at a time when security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir, with forces maintaining a strong counter-terror operation following Operation Sindoor. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
The incident is being seen as the first major terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pahalgam Terror Attack last year, in which 26 people were killed. Following that attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, a large-scale counter-terror operation targeting terrorist infrastructure across the region.
