PTC Web Desk: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her estranged husband in Faridabad on Friday night following a heated argument linked to a long-standing family dispute. The shocking incident took place in the Sunlight Colony area under the Palla police station limits.

The victim, identified as Sangeeta Devi, had been living separately from her husband and in-laws along with her two children. According to police officials, divorce proceedings between the couple were currently pending in court.

The incident occurred around 8 pm in Basantpur village’s Sunlight Colony. Local residents said Sangeeta was not at home when her husband and some members of his family reportedly arrived there. When they failed to find her, they began to leave. However, they soon spotted her walking down the street and stopped her.

The police said an argument broke out between the two sides. During the confrontation, the husband allegedly pulled out a firearm. As tensions escalated, Sangeeta reportedly attempted to move away from the situation, but the accused fired multiple shots at her. She sustained two bullet injuries and collapsed on the road.

The sound of gunfire drew neighbours out of their homes. Taking advantage of the commotion, the accused fled from the spot.

Sangeeta’s father also reached the scene after being informed. With the help of local residents, she was rushed to a private hospital in Sector 31, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The police have registered a murder case at Palla police station and launched a search operation to arrest the accused, who is reportedly a native of Bihar.

SHO Satya Prakash said preliminary findings indicate that the couple had been involved in a divorce dispute. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
