PTC News Desk: Indian travellers will no longer require an airport transit visa when travelling through Germany to another country, the German Embassy in New Delhi said on Tuesday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the USTR stated that it had determined under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 that the acts, policies and practices of the 60 economies were “unreasonable and burden or restrict US commerce".

“This implements a result of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s trip to India in January of this year," the German Embassy release stated.

The German Embassy said the move is aimed at simplifying travel procedures and strengthening ties between Germany and India.

The announcement follows German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to India in January, which was his first official trip to the country and his first visit to Asia since taking office.

In a statement, the Embassy said the decision reflects the German government's commitment to deepening India-Germany relations, easing the movement of people, and boosting economic cooperation between the two countries.

Previously, some Indian travellers passing through German airports were required to obtain an airport transit visa. Under the new rules, this requirement has been removed, making it easier for Indian passengers to transit through Germany while travelling to other destinations.
