GRAP Stage III restrictions lifted in Delhi-NCR as air quality improves after rain
Preventive measures under GRAP-I and GRAP-II will continue to remain in place to keep pollution levels in check
PTC Web Desk: Authorities on Friday withdrew Stage III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR after a noticeable improvement in air quality, aided by rainfall and strong winds. However, preventive measures under GRAP-I and GRAP-II will continue to remain in place to keep pollution levels in check.
According to official data, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 230 at around 5:30 pm, placing it in the ‘poor’ category. This marked a significant improvement compared to New Year’s Day, when the AQI had deteriorated to 380, classified as ‘very poor’.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and further decisions on restrictions will depend on upcoming air quality trends. Residents have been advised to continue following pollution-control guidelines despite the partial relaxation.
Under GRAP-III, non-essential construction and demolition work is prohibited, including activities such as earthmoving, piling, open trench digging, welding, painting, plastering, and flooring or tiling. The restrictions also mandate the shutdown of ready-mix concrete (RMC) units, stone crushers, brick kilns, and mining operations.
Vehicular curbs under this stage include a ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers, along with non-essential diesel-run medium goods vehicles. Inter-state diesel buses that do not comply with CNG, electric, or BS-VI norms are also not permitted to operate. Additionally, industries found using non-approved fuels are required to suspend operations during the enforcement period.
