PTC News Desk: Torrential rainfall on early Tuesday caused a major landslide near Kangra, cutting off the National Highway leading to Dharamsala and leaving hundreds of vehicles stuck.

The disruption also affected essential services such as milk and newspaper delivery. Public frustration grew as no officials arrived at the scene for several hours.

In Mandi, flash floods triggered by heavy overnight rainfall claimed two lives, left one person missing, and injured another. The deluge hit Jail Road in Tungal Colony early Tuesday, causing significant damage. Several parked vehicles were swept away, and debris flooded homes, damaging property across the area.

The sudden rise in water levels caught residents by surprise. Rescue efforts are underway, while major routes like the Chandigarh-Manali and Mandi-Pathankot highways remain blocked due to the flooding.

Rescue teams have so far recovered two bodies, and efforts are still underway to find the missing person. District administration officials, SDRF personnel, and local volunteers are actively involved in clearing debris and assisting affected residents.

Beyond the loss of lives, the flash floods and resulting landslides have caused major disruptions to regional connectivity. The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway is blocked at several locations — notably at 4 Miles and 9 Miles near Pandoh — cutting off access between Mandi and Kullu. Additionally, the Mandi-Pathankot highway has been shut due to a landslide near the Lavandi Bridge in Jogindernagar.
