India to resume tourist visa services for Bangladeshi nationals from June 28
The decision marks a significant relaxation of restrictions imposed after unrest in Bangladesh in August 2024 forced the Indian High Commission to scale down its operations.
PTC News Desk: In a major move to restore normal travel and people-to-people contact, India will start issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens again from June 28. The service is being resumed nearly two years after visa operations were reduced following attacks on Indian diplomatic facilities in Bangladesh.
India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, announced the decision during a visit to the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka's Jamuna Future Park. He said India would continue to process medical visas and other urgent applications on humanitarian grounds.
"I am very happy to announce that we are resuming our normal visa applications for tourist visas, which can be submitted from Sunday, 28th June 2026," Trivedi said.
Initially, tourist visa applications will be accepted at five Indian Visa Application Centres located in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet and Khulna. India plans to expand the service further in the future.
Trivedi said the move is expected to strengthen ties and exchanges between the people of both countries.
The decision marks a significant relaxation of restrictions imposed after unrest in Bangladesh in August 2024 forced the Indian High Commission to scale down its operations.
Due to the security concerns and attacks on its facilities, India had suspended tourist visa services for Bangladeshi nationals. The resumption of these visas is seen as an important step towards normalising bilateral exchanges and travel between the two neighbouring countries.
