Jammu and Kashmir: One terrorist neautralised, army jawan injured as encounter breaks out in Kulgam, search operation underway

An official confirmed the development and said that the gunfight began after a joint team of Police, Army’s 9 RR, and CRPF launched a search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists.

PTC News Desk: A terrorist was neutralised and an army jawan was injured after an encounter between terrorists and security forces broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. 

An official confirmed the development and said  that the gunfight began after a joint team of Police, Army’s 9 RR, and CRPF launched a search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists.

“As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter,” the official said.

“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries," Indian Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X.


The process of identification of the terrorist is underway, while the injured JCO of the Army was airlifted to the army hospital in Srinagar, officials said.


The search operation was launched by the forces after they received credible inputs about the presence of the terrorists. The search operation turned into an encounter as the terrorists opened fire at the security personnel.
