PTC Web Desk: A family dispute over a mobile phone ended in tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday, with three members of the same family dying after a series of falls from a hill, the police said.

The incident took place in the Tisgaon area under Waluj MIDC police jurisdiction during the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Murlidhar Chandgude, 48, his wife Sangita, and their 19-year-old son Kunal, residents of the Zalta Phata area of the city.

According to police, the incident began around 10 am when Kunal went up a nearby hill after an argument with his parents over his demand for a new mobile phone.

Worried about their son, Murlidhar and Sangita followed him to the hilltop and tried to convince him to return home.

As the situation continued, villagers, police officers and fire brigade personnel reached the location.

Firefighters attempted to place a safety net below the hill in case Kunal fell. However, he reportedly kept moving along the edge of the steep slope, making the rescue effort difficult.

The situation became critical around 1 pm when Murlidhar moved closer to his son in an attempt to calm him.

The police said Kunal then jumped from the hill. Murlidhar tried to grab him, but both lost their balance and fell from the hilltop. Both died in the fall.

Sangita reportedly witnessed her husband and son fall from the hill. In a distressed state, she jumped from the same location moments later and also died. The police recovered all three bodies and sent them for the required formalities.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
