PTC Web Desk: A massive fire broke out in a residential building in Noida's Mamura village on Wednesday, leaving two persons dead. At least 50 families were safely evacuated. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have started while an electric bike was being charged in the ground-floor parking area.

Fire suspected to have started during EV charging

The incident occurred at Mamura village under the Phase-3 police station limits of Gautam Buddha Nagar. According to officials, the fire is suspected to have originated from an electric vehicle that was being charged. The flames rapidly spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles parked in the basement and ground-floor parking area.

Around 50 families evacuated in large-scale rescue operation

After receiving the alert, the fire department rushed multiple teams to the spot with seven fire tenders, rescue vehicles and hydraulic platforms. Firefighters carried out an extensive rescue operation and safely evacuated around 50 families trapped inside the four-storey residential building.

Two residents die due to smoke inhalation

Joint Commissioner of Police Rajeev Narain said the building has parking on the ground floor and residential flats on the upper floors. Thick smoke from the parking area quickly engulfed the building, making evacuation difficult. Two residents suffered severe smoke inhalation and were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Investigation underway to confirm exact cause

Rescue teams searched every flat to ensure no one remained trapped before bringing the fire under control. Officials said the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation. While preliminary findings point to electric vehicle charging as the possible source of the fire, authorities said the final cause will be confirmed only after a detailed forensic examination.
