Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah announces marriage to veteran journalist Nidhi Razdan
PTC News Desk: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that he married journalist Nidhi Razdan. On Saturday, he shared a photograph with Razdan on Instagram and wrote, “A new journey began yesterday.”
The announcement came a day after their wedding and three months after the Supreme Court agreed to grant Abdullah a divorce from his estranged wife, Payal Abdullah.
This is the second marriage for 49-year-old Nidhi.
The wedding functions in Srinagar and New Delhi were attended by families and close relatives from both sides.
On July 31, 2026, the Supreme Court said it would dissolve their marriage after both parties told the court they had agreed to separate and settle their pending disputes. They also agreed to withdraw the cases filed against each other.
Abdullah had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him a divorce. During the proceedings, the couple jointly sought to end their marriage by mutual consent under Article 142 of the Constitution.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who represented them, told the court that they had settled their differences.
Omar Abdullah and Payal Abdullah married in 1994 after meeting while working at The Oberoi hotel in Delhi. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. The couple had been living separately since 2009. Omar announced their separation in 2011. The Supreme Court had earlier noted that they had been apart for several years.
