Notice issued to IndiGo, Mumbai airport for tarmac dining incident
PTC News Desk: The Centre has taken notice and issued show-cause notices to IndiGo Airlines and Mumbai Airport following the circulation of a viral video depicting passengers eating on the tarmac at the airport. Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia held a late-night meeting with ministry officials to address critical concerns within the aviation sector.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has called for comprehensive responses from both IndiGo and Mumbai Airport by the end of the day in response to the incident. Social media platforms were flooded with videos and images on Monday showing stranded passengers casually dining on the tarmac beside an aircraft in Mumbai. This unusual scene unfolded due to extensive flight disruptions at Delhi airport caused by dense fog the previous day.
In its statement, the aviation ministry expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of proactive measures by both IndiGo and Mumbai Airport in anticipating and facilitating the situation for affected passengers. Specific lapses were highlighted, such as assigning the aircraft to a remote bay (C-33) instead of a Contact Stand, which is more suitable for walking passengers to and from an aircraft from an allocated boarding gate.
