Papa mujhe bacha lo: 10-year-olds last cry before being abducted, sexually assaulted and killed
The child was sleeping alongside her parents and three siblings near Chattarpur in Mehrauli during the early hours of Monday when a cab driver allegedly picked her up and forced her into his vehicle.
PTC News Desk: 'Papa mujhe bacha lo' these were the last words of a 10 year old girl who was kidnapped in her sleep from a pavement in South Delhi. Hearing the distressing screams of the girl, her father ran after the car, but by then the accused had already fled with the child.
The victim was kidnapped, subjected to sexual assault and later strangled to death by the cab driver.
The child was sleeping alongside her parents and three siblings near Chattarpur in Mehrauli during the early hours of Monday when a cab driver allegedly picked her up and forced her into his vehicle. The driver identified as Bablu, was heavily intoxicated, said the police and was waiting to pick up a ride when he noticed the little girl sleeping.
Her screams jolted her father awake, who frantically ran after the vehicle but it was all in vain.
“I heard my daughter shouting ‘Papa’. By the time I got up, she was being taken inside a car," the grieving father recalled.
Although the vehicle was captured on CCTV, its registration number was not clearly visible. After carefully reviewing the footage, police found that the white hatchback had been parked at the spot for about an hour. It arrived around 4 am, and the girl was abducted nearly an hour later, at about 5 am.
To identify the vehicle, police sought trip records from ride-hailing platforms operating in the area. Investigators also examined CCTV footage from other locations along the route, which helped them trace the car.
Using GPS data and the suspect's mobile phone location, police tracked the vehicle to the Vikaspuri area of West Delhi.
During questioning, the accused, Bablu, allegedly confessed to the crime. According to police, he admitted to kidnapping the girl and driving her around 20 kilometres to the Gurugram-Faridabad Road area. Investigators said he then took her into a secluded wooded area, sexually assaulted her, and later strangled her with a scarf, leading to her death.
