Parliament security breach: PM Modi addresses serious incident, calls it a matter of national security
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Parliament security breach incident and urged political parties to refrain from politicising the issue as it is a matter of national security. Calling it a "serious" matter, the Prime Minister also called for a thorough probe into the incident.
PM Modi made these comments in an interview with a media outlet, where he also called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
''We should go into the depths of this accident and find a solution so that it does not happen again,'' said the Prime Minister. "After this incident, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha has ordered an investigation and we all are confident that the conspiracy will be exposed," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying.
"It is important to understand what the accused's intentions were behind this incident, as well as which elements were active behind it," he added.
PM Modi had previously directed senior ministers to take the security breach in Lok Sabha very seriously. He warned against political manoeuvring and urged collective precautionary measures at a meeting on Thursday. It should be noted that the government has already formed a panel to investigate any lapses that allowed two men to infiltrate the Lok Sabha and disrupt proceedings.
Parliament security breach probe update
Police sources said on Sunday that the phone parts of the accused in the Parliament security breach incident had been recovered from Rajasthan.
All the phone parts were found in burnt condition and police are yet to recover Lalit Jha's phone.
According to earlier reports, Lalit Jha, the accused in the Parliament security breach incident, destroyed five mobile phones before arriving in Delhi and was deceiving the investigating team.
Before the security breach, the four accused handed over their phones to Jha in order to prevent critical investigation details from reaching the police in anticipation of their arrest.
"Lalit Jha destroyed not four but five mobile phones after fleeing to Rajasthan's Kuchaman," sources close to the police said.
Parliament security breach
The security breach incident took place on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack on December 13.
During Zero Hour, two people, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, releasing yellow gas from canisters and shouting anti-establishment slogans before being overpowered by MPs.
In a separate incident, two protesters, Neelam (42) and Amol (25) demonstrated outside the Parliament with similar gas canisters. On Thursday, however, all four were taken into the custody of the Delhi Police Special Cell for seven days.
