PGI's annual research day: PGIMER held its tenth annual research day on Saturday. The day concluded with more than 400 research papers on display and over 50 doctors receiving various awards.
36 researchers received 'Research publications' awards in the surgical, medical, and basic sciences fields, while 15 received 'Innovations' awards for their outstanding research work.
Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Health Research and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, served as the Chief Guest for the Annual Research Day.
Prof. Y.K. Chawla, Prof. V. Sakhuja, Prof. D. Behera, Prof. S.K. Jindal, Prof. A. Chakraborti and Prof. Madhu Khullar also attended the event.
While delivering his address on 'Research in Medical Institutions in India', Dr. Rajiv Bahl stated, "The vision is relatively simple: Indian institutions should achieve global leadership in health research." "However, it is incomplete unless it contributes to the resolution of Indian citizens' health issues. I don't consider that research unless it helps you do something. So I urge you to do one of two things: make India proud or make Indians healthier."
He also praised PGIMER for being visionary in its efforts to conduct impactful research, saying, "I envision at least three Indian medical institutions in the top 100 in the next three years in terms of global ranking, with PGIMER unquestionably among them. But then our research should be focused on three things: research, innovation, and societal benefit."

To take research to the next level, Director General ICMR outlined some strategic action points for the institute, including: "expansion and enhancement of intramural research grants; increased value to impactful research; protected time for faculty engaged in impactful research; central research laboratories; ease of doing research and operational entrepreneurship policy."
