Cold wave grips Punjab, Haryana: Dense fog triggers zero visibility in several parts

PTC News Desk: Severe winter has intensified across Punjab and Haryana, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting cold wave and cold day conditions in several areas over the last 24 hours. While both states have seen dry weather, low temperatures combined with persistent fog have increased cold-related discomfort and raised health and travel concerns.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for very dense fog across most parts of Punjab and Haryana till December 26, with fog expected at isolated locations on December 27 as well.

Punjab continues to experience dry conditions, with harsh winter chill especially during nights and early mornings. Even though there has been a slight increase in average daytime temperatures, maximum temperatures in some areas stayed 2 to 2.5°C above normal, highlighting the contrast between comparatively warmer afternoons and cold nights.

Haryana is also facing cold stress despite daytime temperatures remaining close to normal. The weather stayed dry across the state, but cold day conditions were recorded at a few places. Maximum temperatures showed only minor daily changes and largely stayed near normal, though pockets of cold stress continued to affect residents.
