PM Modi to launch Indias first Water Metro in Kochi on April 25

Kochi, April 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Kochi on Tuesday to inaugurate India's first Water Metro project. This project is part of the government's efforts to provide urban mass transit systems with the same experience and ease of travel as that of the conventional metro systems.

The Water Metro project is a unique urban mass transit system which is very useful in cities like Kochi. It has been designed to provide infrastructure and connectivity without relying on a one-size fits all approach. 

The officials further detailed the differences between the various forms of Metro systems.

"Metro Lite is a low-cost Mass Rapid Transit System with the same experience and ease of travel in terms of comfort, convenience, safety, punctuality, reliability, and environment friendliness as that of the conventional metro system," they said.

Apart from the Water Metro project, Metro Lite, Metro Neo, and Regional Rapid Transit System are also being planned in various cities across India.


The officials further said that, "Metro Lite costs 40 per cent of a conventional metro system. It is being planned in cities such as Jammu, Srinagar and Gorakhpur." 

"Metro Neo has rubber tyred electric coaches powered by overhead traction system running on a road slab with exclusive right of way, with the same experience and ease of travel in terms of comfort, convenience, safety, punctuality, reliability and environment friendliness as that of the conventional metro system," they added.

PM Modi's 36-hour journey across seven cities will begin from Delhi on April 24. He will travel from Delhi to Khajuraho, covering a distance of around 500 kilometres. From Khajuraho, he will travel to Rewa for the National Panchayati Raj Day programme. After this, he will come back to Khajuraho, and then to Kochi, covering an aerial distance of about 1700 kilometres, to participate in the Yuvam Conclave.

On April 25, PM Modi will travel to Thiruvananthapuram, Silvassa via Surat, Daman, and back to Delhi, covering an aerial distance of around 5,300 kilometres. During his tour, he will flag off Vande Bharat Express and will dedicate and lay the foundation stone of various projects. He will also visit NAMO medical college and will dedicate and lay the foundation stone of various projects.

This power-packed schedule is sure to revolutionize regional development and improve the ease of living in cities across India. PM Modi's dedication of India's first Water Metro project in Kochi will be a major milestone in this mission.
