Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav detained during protest outside PM Modis residence
The leaders were demanding accountability over the alleged police action against protesting students and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
PTC News Desk: Several Opposition leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday after holding a sit-in protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence.
The leaders were demanding accountability over the alleged police action against protesting students and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest march was also joined by several senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The demonstration was held in support of the ongoing protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which is demanding Pradhan's resignation over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET controversy.
A day after violence broke out during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' march in Delhi, Congress leaders staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday. The party accused the Centre of using excessive force against students and protesters and demanded accountability for the clashes.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera, participated in the protest.
Rahul Gandhi seeks resignation of PM and Home Minister
Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the government over the police action taken during Monday's protest. In a post on X, he said the Congress marched to the Prime Minister's residence to seek answers over the alleged use of force against students. He accused the government of avoiding accountability and refusing to discuss the matter in Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi also demanded the resignation of both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, alleging that the government's actions had harmed the future of the country's youth.
Earlier in the day, political leaders visited those injured during Monday's clashes. Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital to meet injured police personnel and others receiving treatment.
