PTC News Desk: Days before Republic Day, intelligence agencies on Saturday issued a warning about potential terror threats targeting New Delhi and several other cities across India.

According to intelligence inputs quoted by ANI, Khalistani groups and Bangladesh-based terror outfits may attempt attacks in the lead-up to January 26. As a preventive measure, Delhi and many other cities have been placed on high alert.

The alert also noted that such gangsters are also active across Haryana, Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Intelligence officials have noted that Punjab-based gangsters are increasingly being recruited as operational foot soldiers by Khalistani and other extremist handlers abroad. These handlers are reportedly using local criminal networks to advance their objectives, posing a risk to national security. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has also highlighted this trend, stating that gangsters from Punjab are “acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers overseas”,

Security intensified before Republic Day

With security tightened ahead of the Republic Day parade, the North District Police have been conducting a series of mock drills at crowded and high-risk locations to evaluate readiness and response efficiency.

In early January 2026, around four such simulation exercises were carried out at sensitive sites across North Delhi, including the Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar and various metro stations.
