Chandigarh Police arrives at author Madhu Kishwar's Delhi residence over obscenity, fake content case
PTC News Desk: A team of Chandigarh Police reached the Delhi office of author Madhu Kishwar on Tuesday to issue a notice in connection with registration of FIR against her over the alleged circulation of forged and misleading social media content.
According to the police, the case was registered after a complaint was received on April 19 from a Chandigarh resident over video clips doing rounds on social media with obscene text and misleading descriptions, misidentifying the individual featured in the footage.
Chandigarh Police registered a case at Sector-26 police station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 196, 318, 336(1), 336(3), 336(4), 340, 353 and 356, along with Sections 66C, 66D, and 67 of the Information Technology Act 2000.
Reacting to the police visit, Kishwar posted on X that five police personnel, including two women officers, had arrived at her office while she was recording a video. She said she had asked them to wait and questioned the timing of the visit.
“Coming at this late hour does not bode well,” she wrote. She also stated that she was aware of legal provisions regarding arrest of women after sunset and expressed concern over the situation.
Police have not issued any statement on the timing of the visit.
