SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal slams Centre in Lok Sabha over delimitation-linked Women reservation
Harsimrat also said the bill has been introduced without proper consultation, and that reservation for women is being given only in the new 50% seats, not in the existing Lok Sabha seats.
PTC News Desk: Massive uproar erupted in the Lok Sabha as discussions presided over implementation of the Delimitation Bill 2026 .
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP MPs, highlighted its benefits and spoke about women’s reservation, opposition parties alleged that the bill is a conspiracy by the BJP for the upcoming elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also strongly opposed the bill in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
“We do not support the Delimitation Bill”
Harsimrat Kaur Badal also said that earlier in 2023, a bill related to women’s reservation was brought, which the BJP did not support at that time. She questioned why it is now being brought again in 2026, allegedly in view of elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. She also said the bill has been introduced without proper consultation, and that reservation for women is being given only in the new 50% seats, not in the existing Lok Sabha seats. She clearly stated that they do not support the Delimitation Bill.
“We reached Parliament without reservation”
She added that in a democracy, everyone deserves equal representation, but the BJP remembers women only during elections. She said her party supports women’s reservation, but the government is changing its approach. She also claimed that the previous government did not allow women’s reservation to be implemented.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal remarked, “We reached Parliament without reservation,” and demanded that women’s reservation should be implemented in the current Lok Sabha seats without waiting for delimitation.
