Seven killed after SUV plunges into gorge in Himachals Chamba district

Residents nearby rushed to the accident site after hearing the impact and immediately alerted the police and local administration.

PTC News Desk: At least seven people were killed in a road accident on Wednesday after the SUV they were travelling in fell into a gorge near Chhatrund on the Chamba-Masroond road in Chamba district. 


The victims, residents of Mahal village under Kuthed gram panchayat, were returning home after attending a function at another village. 


According to reports, the vehicle lost control near Chhatrund and plunged into a deep gorge. The crash was so devastating that the vehicle was completely crushed. Six people died at the scene, while another victim later succumbed to injuries. Among the deceased were three men and three women. Authorities are currently working to establish the identities of the victims.


Residents nearby rushed to the accident site after hearing the impact and immediately alerted the police and local administration. Locals pointed out that the stretch where the accident occurred is particularly hazardous and lacks crash barriers, raising concerns about road safety.


Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani said police teams reached the spot promptly and launched a rescue operation. He added that the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
