Six women killed after being run over by train while crossing railway tracks; CM Yogi announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh

According to police, the women were crossing the tracks to reach the platform when they were struck by the high-speed Kalka Express passing on another line. The train hit them before they could react, resulting in their deaths.

PTC News Desk: At least six women were killed after being run over by a train at Chunar Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district on Wednesday morning. Preliminary reports suggest the incident occurred around 9:30 am when the Chopan–Prayagraj passenger train arrived at the station, and the victims got down on the side opposite the main platform.


According to police, the women were crossing the tracks to reach the platform when they were struck by the high-speed Kalka Express passing on another line. The train hit them before they could react, resulting in their deaths.


“All six victims have been identified,” said Prakash D., Additional Director General (Railways). Police confirmed that all of them were residents of Mirzapur district, and their families have been informed. The tragedy caused panic among passengers, while railway and local police rushed to the scene to conduct rescue and relief operations. Senior officials also arrived to oversee the situation and ensure the bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the investigation.


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. Taking note of the incident, he directed senior officials to immediately reach the site and ensure that rescue and relief operations were carried out swiftly. 


He also ordered the SDRF and NDRF teams to be deployed without delay and intensify efforts on a war footing.

The Chief Minister further instructed that the injured be provided with proper medical care and wished them a speedy recovery.
