PTC News Desk: The Thalapathy era is all set to begin in Tamil Nady as Vijay will be taking oath as chief minister after TVK managed to secured majority after VCK extended its unconditional support.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Saturday received the Governor's clearance to form the government in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured the support required to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, along with senior TVK leaders, submitted support letters from 120 MLAs to the Governor after parties like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress gave unconditional support to his bid to form a coalition government. Vijay is now set to become the first non-Dravidian Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 59 years, although it is still unclear how many ministers will join his Cabinet.

Saturday’s meeting was Vijay’s fourth with the Governor in just one week as he tried to secure an invitation to form the government. His earlier attempts failed because he did not have enough support letters from MLAs.

The political deadlock in Tamil Nadu finally ended after several days of talks, with allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam eventually supporting Vijay’s party and helping it cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. However, the alliance has only a narrow majority of 120 MLAs.

TVK workers and supporters celebrated the development by bursting firecrackers outside the party headquarters in Chennai.
