PTC News Desk: Two foreign nationals died after allegedly suffering an electric shock at the swimming pool of Bengaluru’s five-star Conrad hotel on Friday evening.

The victims were identified as 57-year-old German national Alexander Maximilian Theiss, a Lufthansa Airlines crew member, and 45-year-old Slovakian national Juraj Horvat, a project manager at IBM. They were staying at the hotel.

According to the complaint, the two men were swimming in the pool on the hotel’s third floor when they suffered an electric shock while trying to get out. They then drowned.

Two people were injured while trying to rescue them: 41-year-old US national Mathew Desantis, who was also staying at the hotel, and 28-year-old pool attendant Rahul Tiwari. Both were taken to Manipal Hospital and are receiving treatment. They are reported to be out of danger.

A complaint alleges that the deaths resulted from negligence by the hotel management in maintaining the swimming pool. Police have registered a case and are investigating. The hotel management has not yet commented.

On Saturday morning, the hotel’s website said the swimming pool would be closed for maintenance from October 31 to November 30.

Conrad is a 24-storey luxury hotel owned by the Hilton group. The incident has raised questions about the hotel’s pool safety and maintenance.
