UP: Man gets life imprisonment for killing father after mother testifies against him
His mother says she did not wish to see her son again and identifed him as the person responsible for her husband’s death
PTC Web Desk: In a rare and dramatic case from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his father, with his mother’s testimony playing a pivotal role in the conviction.
The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Tabrez Ahmed on Thursday. The accused, identified as Chhatrapal, attacked his father with a sickle on April 11 last year following a dispute over 10 bighas (approximately 60 acres) of land. The victim succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a nearby hospital. Reports describe the father as a cautious individual who had not transferred the land to anyone, leading to frequent arguments with his son.
During the trial, the prosecution presented seven witnesses, including the victim’s brother. The mother of the accused gave a decisive statement, saying she did not wish to see her son again and identifying him as the person responsible for her husband’s death.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Chhatrapal in addition to the life sentence.
