Zomato raises platform fee again; customers to pay more per order

PTC Web Desk: Food delivery major Zomato has once again increased the platform fee charged to users, pushing up the overall cost of ordering food through its app. The latest revision takes the base platform fee to Rs 14.90 per order (before GST), compared to the earlier Rs 12.50. This marks another price hike by the company, following a similar increase implemented in September 2025.

With taxes included, rival platform Swiggy is currently charging around Rs 14.99 per order, reflecting a continuing trend where both competitors maintain near-identical pricing structures.

The development comes amid fresh competition in the food delivery market. Ride-hailing startup Rapido has entered the segment with its service ‘Ownly’ in Bengaluru. The company has positioned itself differently by stating that it will not impose platform or additional charges on users or restaurants, apart from the delivery fee.

Rapido’s entry could intensify pressure on established players, particularly at a time when customers have been voicing concerns over rising costs due to multiple add-on charges in food delivery bills.

Industry dynamics are also being influenced by increasing crude oil prices, which raise operational costs for delivery services. Higher fuel expenses can affect delivery partners and restaurant margins, often leading platforms to revise their fee structures.

For consumers, the latest hike translates into a marginal but noticeable increase in the final order value, even as competition in the sector continues to evolve.
