In the run-up to Punjab Assembly elections 2022, the farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni on Tuesday said that the decision to contest elections in Punjab was taken to change the situation and that their fight is against Aam Aadmi Party only.

There are drugs in Punjab, unemployment is increasing, and water is getting toxic, Charuni said mentioning the main issues of Punjab ahead of Assembly elections 2022.

The change can only come when the people who are suffering come in politics, he said, adding that they are receiving good responses across the state.

Gurnam Singh Charuni further said that the economic war was on all over the country. Furthermore, he said that their fight is against Aam Aadmi Party only who have tickets to rich people only.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 20. Congress is the incumbent party in the state. The farmer organisations have decided to contest elections under the banner of Sanyukt Samaj Morcha with Balbir Singh Rajewal as their CM face.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has joined hands with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the Punjab polls 2022. BJP is fighting the polls in alliance with former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
