Punjab Government vs DoPT: Conflict arises over IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu's voluntary retirement

Chandigarh, April 11: Conflict between the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and the Punjab Government has emerged over IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu's voluntary retirement.

Although the Department of Personnel and Training has Parampal Kaur Sidhu's resignation, but the file remains pending with the Chief Minister's office. The status of Parampal Kaur now hangs in the balance due to the delay in the file at the CMO.

While every IAS officer is entitled to take VRS, the Chief Minister's office appears to be the roadblock in this case. Questions have been raised regarding Chief Minister's stance on Parampal Kaur's recent decision to join the BJP. Parampal Kaur, along with her husband Gurpreet Maluka, officially joined the BJP on Thursday.

After few hours of her joining, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann posted on X “Parampal Kaur’s resignation as an IAS officer hasn’t yet not accepted by Punjab government. She was so eager to become an IAS earlier. However , there is a way to leave.. Please understand the ways to resign.. Otherwise the earning of the whole life will go waste.”

Speculations indicate that Parampal Kaur may run against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) heavyweight and incumbent MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal in Bathinda. However, her father-in-law, Sikander Singh Maluka was campaigning for Harsimrat Kaur Badal in Bathinda up until April 10.
