Petrol and diesel prices in India up over Rs 8 per litre in 55 days

The petrol and diesel prices in India raised on Sunday, June 27, by 35 paise per litre and 25 paise per litre, respectively. It was the 31st hike in fuel prices in 55 days.

With the 31st hike, petrol has become even costlier as it is being retailed by Rs 8.06 per litre while diesel is being sold by Rs 8.17 since May 4.

Interestingly, the hike in fuel prices started a day after the results of five assembly elections were declared.

Meanwhile, the petrol and diesel prices in Delhi were at a record Rs 98.46 per litre and Rs 88.90 a litre, respectively. The fuel rates in the national capital are the benchmark for the entire country.

The retail prices of auto fuels vary from place to place due to the state taxes and local levies. The petrol and diesel prices have crossed the Rs 100 mark in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar as petrol is being sold at Rs 109.67 per litre while the diesel at Rs 102.12 a litre on Sunday.

Mumbai is having the highest rates among 5 metros where petrol was currently being sold at Rs 104.56 per litre and diesel at Rs 96.42 per litre.

The latest hike in petrol and diesel prices in India has led to the highest jump in fuel rates in the last two days. The state-run oil marketing companies had raised fuel prices by 35 paise a litre on Saturday when petrol breached the Rs 100 mark in several cities of four more states—Punjab, Bihar, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
