Mumbai, February 22: A Congress leader on Tuesday filed a plea against the film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' in the Bombay High Court (HC), requesting the name of the upcoming movie to be changed.

Before the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directorial, Congress' MLA Amin Patel took the film to Bombay High Court, stating that it misrepresents Kamathipura as a red-light district and demeans the Kathiawadi community's name. The petition will be heard by the HC on Wednesday.

The film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi,' directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is about a maiden who is sold into prostitution by a suitor and how she rises to prominence in the underworld in the Kamathipua red-light district.

Residents in the area have also filed a complaint with the High Court, alleging that the film misrepresented the entire Kamathipura region as a red-light district, causing girls to be taunted and families in the area to bear the brunt of the abuses.
